In The Beginning

We are all very familiar with the opening words of the Bible.

Gen 1 v1 - "In the beginning, Elohiym (god) created the heavens and the earth."

But what if I told you many of us have missed something so fundamentally HUGE in this opening sentence that how we look at scripture, how we read scripture is about to change.

So what do I mean.

Well you may already have noticed that this website uses a lot of Hebrew names and words in our quotations and sermons and that is because the langauge of the Bible, God's Language is so much more deep and meaningful than English. What's more it is the original language the Bible was written in and not just that but the language that Yahusha Ha'Mashiach himself spoke while on earth, every psalm was composed in Hebrew, every word in Torah first given in Hebrew and every covenant established in Hebrew.

So what are we missing in Genesis 1v1?

Let me explain. When we see Hebrew words there are three things you need to know right away.

Firstly they all have their own meaning, even names mean something, like for example Yahusha (Jesus) means Our saviour, or he who brings us to victory. Beyt'Lechem (bethlehem) means house of bread. Yahsuha was born in Beyt'Lechem, he is the bread of life...

Secondly every letter in Hebrew has its own picture and its own specific meaning.

And Third, the words read from right to left, not left to right as in English.

And we are going to look at 6 letters today.

The word is Bere'shiyth (בראשית) which means "In beginning" or in the beginning, or better still means Genesis. This word Bere'shiyth, not only is the name of the first book of the Bible, but also is the opening word of the same book in Hebrew.

Now lets go deeper into it.

The first letter is ב Beyt, The picture for this is a tent, meaning tent or house or dwelling. Like above in the start of beyt Lechem, (Bethlehem)

The second letter is ר Resh, the picture for this is a human head. Now this is where we need to see how Hebrew works. The word for Father is ABA or in Hebrew אב Alpeh Beyt (alpha bet, yes The Hebrew word for Father is the word that gives us our alphabet, AB). But the picture for Aleph is an ox head, which symbolised power and strength. So The word אב Alpeh Beyt is strength tent, or the strength of the tent. The Hebrew word for son is Bar בר which is also the opening part of Bereshyt. This picture is the tents head or the head of the tent. The leader of the tent.

The next letter in Bereshyt is Aleph א like we said above the Ox head the strength and power. It is also Gods symbol, remember I am the Aleph and the Tav, but I am getting ahead of myself.

So the first the letters of Bereshyt are ברא, which pictures mean Son of God... but it gets better.

The next letter is Shin, ש which has a picture that look like teeth but they mean devour, destroy, consume.

Now that little combo is its own hebrew word to, Aiysh אש which means fire (Gods wrath, his destruction). It is the word used for the fire in the burning bush and many other examples of God's fire in the bible.

After Shin we get Yod י, the picture for yod being a hand. This represents, will, action.

And finally we have Tav, ת, which ha a symbol rather like a wonky cross, or a cross leaning to one side, but it means promise, covenant, mark. You would put your tav ת, your mark, your promise on something.

Remeber when I quoted I am the Aleph and the Tav, or in many english versions because we get it from Greek the alpha and omega? It doesnt just mean beginnging and end, although they are the first and last letters in the Hebrew alphabet so we can see why the Greeks go for those, but in Hebrew as always it goes so much deeper. It also means I am the strength and the covenant, the authority and the promise. As with every word that Yahuah and Yahusha speak there are just layers and layers of deep, soulful, glorious teaching that we should never tire of discovering.

So lets put it all together, Bere'shiyth, In beginning: בראשית

בר the son

א of God

ש is destroyed

י willingly

ת for the covenant

HalleluYah!

Do you remember in Yesha'Yahu (Isaiah) which by the way means 'God saves'(Yahu (Yahuah), Yesha (saves).

In Yesha'Yahu (Isaiah) ch46 v8-10 "Remember this, and show yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am El (God) and there is none else; I am Elohiym (God) and there is none like me. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done." He is refering in Yesha'Yahu (Isaiah) to both the ancient times of Bereshyt, and the things not yet, the yet being the sacrifice of Yahusha for our sins. And the book of Genesis is filled with so much deep and wonderful secrets, hints and teachings that you could read only that book forever and never find them all.

Declaring the end from the beginning, the end from Bere'shiyth . The end from; the son of God is destroyed willingly for the Covenant.

Well he certainly did. It's the first word, as you have never seen it before, and it tells the whole story.

HalleluYah
